Starting on Murals January 2, 2011

Both mural sketches are now approved. I am ready to begin painting the images on full scale. I can't wait to get started. Materials will now be ordered. it's now just a matter of waiting for the materials to arrive, then we start. Now I have my eyes on another future project of which I may talk about later.

Rough Concept Sketches To Scale

As shown under each painted sketch I first created a scaled grid sketch. Mural A is of Timpanogos viewing it from Silver Lake Flat in American Fork Canyon. Mural B is an idealized composition climbing up Timpanogos from the Sundance side. Each grid sketch will help me lay out the actual murals. Mural A will measure 9 feet 2 inches by 72 feet 3 inches. Mural B will actually measure 13 feet by 60 feet.

UPDATED MURAL SKETCHES FOR BUILDINGS A & B NOVATEK

For this project, I wanted something more dramatic than I have done before. Instead of  making sketches of the Utah County area Wasatch mountains along the I-15 Corridor, I went up into the mountains themselves to gather reference material. these two sketches show the results of that experience. I am personally pleased with the end result. At first, the sketches were too cold or dark. For this project, the murals must help create an uplifting and happy feeling. I believe we succeeded in the final result.
